STARS TURN OUT FOR PARTOUCHE CHARITY POKER
30 May 2008
$1 million donated to child leukemia and
environmental charities
Don Cheadle and Annie Duke are not the only stars to
turn out for charity poker, judging by reports from
InStyle and other celebrity publications recently.
Cannes was the venue for a charity event arranged by the
Partouche group's Palm Beach Casino which featured
Hollywood luminaries such as Goldie Hawn, Salma Hayek,
Tim Robbins, Woody Harrelson, Dennis Hopper, Edward
Norton and Adrien Brody, along with French actress Alice
Taglioni.
The 2008 Partouche Charity Poker Festival tournament has
become a regular fixture on the Canne Film Festival
program, generating significant sums of money for
charities - the winner nominates a charity of choice to
receive the annual $1 million bonanza.
In the two hour game this year there were two winners as
Harrelson and Alice Taglioni reached a deal in the heads
up and split the prize, with Harrelson directing that it
be donated to the environmental organisation Oasis
Preserve International, and Taglioni gifting her half to
Enfants et santé, which helps children affected by
leukemia or other orphan diseases.
The event was watched by crowds of celebrity hunters,
mainly via large screen television facilities.
