2 May 2008
Innovative payment solution soon available for
South Africa's 5 million Internet users
South Africa's five million Internet users will soon
have access to the innovative Ukash payments system,
according to an announcement this week by CEO Mark
Chirnside
“Ukash is a practical and convenient payment method for
those consumers who don’t have cards or have concerns
about giving out their financial details online”, said
Chirnside this week. “We’re pleased to be making Ukash
available from hundreds of conveniently located Shell
(service station) locations right across South Africa”.
The service is lready available in thousands of
locations such as convenience stores, newsagents, post
offices and petrol stations across Europe.
Over 200 terminals located in South African Shell Select
petrol station shops will shortly be able to issue Ukash
vouchers in values between Rands 50 and Rands 1500.
Consumers use the unique 19 digit Ukash number printed
on the voucher to pay for goods and services online,
avoiding the need to use a credit card.
“Ukash is already available to an estimated 226 million
European internet users who don't have or don't wish to
use credit or debit cards online. I’m pleased that South
Africa’s 5 million internet users will now have the
chance to use Ukash when they shop, play and pay
online”, Chirnside said. “A number of leading South
African online stores will be going live soon, providing
even more choice for consumers to spend their Ukash”.
Ukash is free of any charges or fees to the consumer,
and avoids the need to put financial details on the
internet.
