Betting exchange concept recognised as a major and innovative success


Online gambling group Betfair has again been recognised by a Queen's Award for Enterprise - the second in its eight year corporate history.

Five years ago the company achieved the award in the Innovation category for creating the first successful betting exchange, a new concept that meant a better deal for customers and greater protections within the betting industry.

Since then, Betfair has grown substantially from a company with 100 000 users, of which only eight percent were from outside the UK and Ireland, to a customer base in excess of 1.1 million where over 40 percent are international users, leading to its second award which is in the International Trade category.

Winners of the Queen's Award are selected on the recommendation of the UK Prime Minister and an independent advisory committee.
