PPA HITS THE MAINSTREAM PRESS
4 May 2007
Los Angeles Times interview publicises poker
pressure group's activities
Hitting the US headlines this week was an LA Times
interview with Michael Bolcerek, the high profile
president of the Poker Players' Alliance, a pressure
group seeking the recognition of poker as a game of
skill and an exemption from the provisions of the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the USA.
Boasting a membership variously estimated between 360
000 and 400 000 and counting, the PPA has achieved some
impressive publicity coups for its views and comments on
industry issues.
The LA Times article appeared in the newspaper's
business section, hailing the group as a "political
player" and describing Bolcerek as a "wild card in the
conservative world of chief financial officers."
Bolcerek's management background in technology were
covered, together with interesting notes on the
involvement of top players like Howard Lederer, who is a
member of the board, and former Senator Alfonse D'Amato.
