MACEDONIAN FOOTBALL CLUB ON THE CARPET FOR MATCH
FIXING
27 March 2009
UEFA charges laid against club's management
and a player
Collaboration with betting companies that highlighted
suspicious betting patterns has enabled UEFA to single
out and take action against the Macedonian football club
FK Pobeda on allegations of match fixing.
The
allegations have their roots in a UEFA Champions League
first qualifying round game between FK Pobeda and FC
Pyunik on 13 July 2004, and the UEFA case is based on
reports received from the betting industry on irregular
betting patterns and the declarations of several
witnesses. The Control and Disciplinary Body will deal
with the case on 17 April 2009, UEFA has announced.
FK Pobeda, its president and one player have been
charged for being in breach of the principles of
integrity and sportsmanship by manipulating the outcome
of a UEFA match to gain an undue advantage for
themselves and a third party.
