BUGSY'S CLUB POKER CLOSES

Online Casino News

27 March 2009

PokerStars will take on players

The economic climate and banking problems have resulted in the closure of online poker site Bugsy's Club, the gaming wing of Poker School Online, this week. Players were emailed with the bad news, which was softened by the assurance that players would be welcomed at the giant PokerStars.com online poker operation.

The message to players says: "Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond our control with regards to banking facilities, it is with regret that we have to announce it is no longer viable for the Bugsy's Club Poker Room to continue our business operations.

"However, we are delighted to inform you that Bugsy's Club has reached an agreement with the world's largest online poker site, PokerStars.com, to allow all Bugsy's Club players to transfer your account balance over to their site.

"Through the agreement we have reached with PokerStars, your player balances will be transferred to them. Before this happens, you will receive an email from PokerStars in the next few days confirming the full details of how to complete the transfer of your balance on to their site. Regrettably, your Bugsy's Bonus Points (BBPs) are not able to be transferred from the Bugsy's Club Poker Room."

The email goes on to advise club players that PokerStars support is available to help with any questions or problems players may have in making the transfer.

Bugsy's Club management gives PokerStars a ringing endorsement in the concluding paragraph of the email, saying: "PokerStars is a highly reputable poker site that is fully equipped to meet the original mission statement set out by Bugsy's Club Poker Room. They are trustworthy, quick to handle cashouts and offer an outstanding level of customer support. In short, they fully deserve their reputation as the best online poker site around. We are delighted to have been able to make these arrangements with them as we know we are leaving you in the best possible hands."

PokerStars stands to gain up to an additional 180 000 players in the deal with Bugsy's. In a statement confirming the arrangement to take on the Bugsy's Club player base, the giant online poker site revealed that Bugsy's was founded by a group of private investors in 2003. It has attracted hundreds of thousands of players "...but unfortunately failed to gain a sufficiently large enough customer base to continue operating in such a highly competitive market."

Brian Baker, CEO of BugsysClub, said: "We are saddened by the events that have lead to the closing down of the BugsysClub card room. However, we are delighted that PokerStars, the world's largest online poker site has come forward to continue taking care of our players personally."
