BIG NIGHT FOR POKERSTARS MANAGER
30 March 2007
Major prizepool and a great turnout a fitting
farewell for a popular online poker manager
The weekend online poker tournament action has once
again been impressive, with a note of regret at
PokerStars as popular poker room manager Lee Jones
supervised his last Sunday Millions before departing for
new responsibilities with the European Poker Tour
organisation.
Sunday's Pokerstars action included buy-ins at $ 1 000,
but this did not deter some 1 712 players from
registering, creating a prizepool of $1 712 000. That
translated into seriously big money for some of the
final tablers, and a cash bubble that extended deep into
the field.
After an entertaining session, it all came down to a
heads up between players 'fouruhaters' and 'hankat'
After some torrid exchanges the two agreed on a two way
chop, guaranteeing at least $241 473 for the loser. Two
hands later it was all done and dusted with 'fouruhaters'
the winner with a nice payday of $291 472 and some
change.
The large prizepool meant that even third and fourth
positions in the final clash earned big sums; 'Mr_BigQueso'
took home $125 318.40 for his third position finish, and
'mman-status' pocketed a useful $100 665.60.
2 185 hopefuls registered for the Full Tilt $400 000
Guaranteed this week, generating a tempting prizepool of
$437 000 that attracted many familiar Internet poker
names. It all came down to millionaire heads up between
the quanitly names 'Zonnywhoop' and 'YourTimeisUp' which
the latter took to win the $80 408 winner's prize,
leaving Zonny with $49 381.
UltimateBet's $200 000 Guaranteed recorded a lower
attendance than last week's turnout of 952, with just
849 entrants paying the $200 buy-in. It was a
disappointing response for a site that has in the past
attracted entry fields in excess of a thousand players,
and it meant that UltimateBet was faced with a $30 200
overlay.
Player 'Laptopsmasher' showed an aggression appropriate
to his name to prevail at the final table, facing 'rppkoz'
in the heads up which turned out to be a highly
entertaining game with plenty of action. In the end it
was 'Laptopsmasher' who's dominating play and superior
chip stack ensured victory and the $45 000 winner's
check. 'rppkoz' pocketed $27 000 for his second place
win.
There was a slight improvement in registrations for the
Bodog $100 000 Guarantee with 839 player in the starting
field, up from the more usual +/- 750 levels this
tournament has been attracting. It wasn't enough,
however to avoid an overlay of just over $16 000 for the
Costa Rican betting group.
'Touchdown4me' and 'Dyzalot' finished up in the heads up
tussle, with the former boasting a chip lead almost four
times that of his opponent, enough to eventually knock
Dyzalot out. The winner's check was $25 000, with the
runner-up getting $14 000 for his trouble.
