WILL ALDERNEY EXHIBIT AT GIGSE?
16 March 2007
Spokesman for regulator seems doubtful
Channel islands online gambling regulator Alderney seems
to be feeling the chill of the US Unlawfiul Internet
Gambling Enforcement Act and the predations on Internet
gambling of US Department of Justrice officials, judging
by doubtful comments attributed to the regulator's
spokesman this week.
Clearly pleased with the interest shown in Alderney as a
licensing jurisdiction during the International Casino
Exhibition in London in January, the Head of E-Commerce
Development, Robin Le Prevost is quoted by portal
Gambling 911 as expressing some doubts about the level
of participation at the GIGSE scheduled for Montreal in
June.
Explaining that Alderney has not yet decided on its
"level of participation" at the upcoming Montreal event,
long a favourite meeting place for the industry, Le
Prevost said: "We have not yet confirmed our level of
participation at GIGSE for this year, it has always been
a great event but with the recent issues in the US we
are not that certain how popular it will be at this
time. Almost certainly I will be going even if we don’t
take an exhibition stand and hope to be able to give a
presentation on the jurisdiction and of course meet with
potential licensees. We are planning a major presence at
EIG in Barcelona this autumn which I think has a great
chance to become as big as GIGSE once was - building on
the opportunities for Europe.
"Other events we will attend are Macau in April and
probably in June also the CAC event in Amsterdam in
early May."
