MALAYSIAN MANAGERS IN ONLINE GAMBLING BUST
29 June 2007
Using WiFi hotspots for gambling can have
consequences....
Police in Penang, Malaysia busted a factory manager and
two engineers taking a coffee break at the E-Gate
complex....and using the free WiFi facilities to do a
little online gambling and sportsbetting while they
relaxed.
The trio, aged between 30 and 32, were picked up in a
late afternoon police raid at the outlet, conducted
after police received a tip-off.
"We received information that the outlet was crowded
with people abusing the free Wifi access to conduct
online gambling activities," said a police source. "Many
of the patrons just grabbed their laptops and ran when
they spotted the raiding party," the source said, adding
that the owner of the establishment was warned not to
let patrons use the free Internet service for illegal
activities.
The fate of the three men was not known as we went to
press.
