GAMBLING FOR FREE ON FACEBOOK
29 June 2007
Bets Go Wild does not contravene US online
gambling laws because no money is involved
The social networking site Facebook is about to enter
the world of online gambling, but not in a way that will
have US authorities on alert, because the "gambling"
will not involve real money according to a statement
issued this week.
US Facebook members will be able to bet online via the
BetsGoWild.com gambling application. Although the bets
will not be for real money this will allow Facebook's 25
million American members to have a wagering outlet that
does not infringe the Unlawful Internet Gambling
Enforcement Act (UIGEA) introduced by the US government
in late 2006.
A wide range of fun bets is expected, from when Paris
Hilton will be released to who will win major sporting
events. The results will be published for the
entertainment of members.
