WSOP $1 500 NO LIMIT HOLD 'EM PAYS OUT BIGTIME
8 June 2007
Record entry and a seriously big winner's check
for someone
World Series of Poker action continued to dominate the
weekend, with many poker pros signing up for different
events, in many cases going from an elimination in one
event such as the $5 000 Mixed Hold 'Em to the $1 500
buy-in No Limit Hold 'Em, which attracted a record field
of 2 998 players - many of them top-ranking pros or
experienced online tournament players. Last year's entry
for the event boasted a starting field 222 smaller.
Transferring their action to the $1 500 event after
being eliminated in the Mixed Hold 'Em were names such
as J.J. Lieu, Roland De Wolfe, Allen Cunningham, Layne
Flack, Kathy Liebert and Daniel Negreanu. Better known
in Internet competitions were Isaac Haxton, who still
awaits the Neteller release of his big PokerStar.com
Caribbean Poker Adventure winnings earlier this year,
Shane "Shaniac" Schleger, Darrell "Gigabet" Dicken,
Justin "ZeeJustin" Bonomo and Sorrel "Imper1um" Mizzi.
The prize-pool is certainly attractive at $4 092 270,
ensuring a cash bubble reaching all the way down to 308
players and that gigantic winner's paycheck of over $700
000.
As we went to press play was at level 19 with blinds of
$15 000/$30 000 and 17 players still duking it out on 2
remaining tables.
In the heads up, Narciso beat second placed finisher
Charles Fisher from Texas, who took home $66 392.
