ONLINE POKER PLAYERS A GOOD SOURCE OF FURTHER
BUSINESS
17 July 2009
Cross-selling is the name of the game
Studies by market research firm Poker Players Research
have shown that online poker players are a good prospect
for cross-selling to other gambling styles, with the
number of real money pokerheads also gambling on other
betting games up by as much as fifty percent in the last
two years.
Poker Players Research reports that
42 percent of the estimated 20 million online real money
poker players now gamble on other activities online, up
from 20 percent in 2007, with the bulk of the growth
occurring in France, Germany and Scandinavia after the
UIGEA constrained Internet gambling in the United
States.
Excluding the Americans, the number of
online poker players who wager on other Internet forms
of betting has grown by 55 percent since 2007. The main
winner in the trend is sportsbetting, now played by 28
percent of poker players, compared to 14 percent a year
ago, with 10 percent of these betting at least weekly,
the PPA survey found. Online blackjack was also a
popular alternative with poker players and is now played
by 27 percent of poker players, significantly up from
the 15 percent noted a year ago.
