Malaysian police keep up the pressure
The Bernama news agency in Malaysia reports that police
have contiinued raids on suspected online gambling
establishments, arresting 130 people, including eight
women, in online gambling raids on 34 Internet cafes in
the Kuantan district over the past month.

OCPD ACP Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said among those arrested
were 34 owners of premises while the rest were clients.
He told reporters that in the operation codenamed “Operasi
Dadu”, police also seized 101 personal computers worth
RM 400 000.
The suspects, who were in their 20s
and 30s, were being investigated under the Common Gaming
House Act 1953 and could be fined between RM10,000 and
RM100,000 if convicted, he added.

said police would step up operations against gambling
activities and that this year alone, police in the
district had already carried out over 80 raids.
He said police had also sent letters to the Kuantan
Municipal Council and Tenaga Nasional Berhad,
recommending the withdrawal of licences and denial of
electricity supply to the premises concerned as a
further punitive as well as preventative measure.
