COOL RIDE FOR POKER PRO
25 July 2008
Betfair's WSOP Mini Cooper held 127 644 chips
Poker fans at the 39th World Series of Poker in Las
Vegas earlier this month were invited by online gambling
group Betfair to estimate the number of poker chips
filling a spanking new, fire engine red Mini Cooper
convertible. The prize was a VIP sponsored package to
this year's World Series of Poker Europe.
Betfair’s sponsored pros Annette Obrestad, John
Tabatabai & Sorel Mizzi helped prepare the cult car,
filling it to the roof before sealing it off behind
perspex. Assisted by Betfair’s air stewardesses the
whole process took well over an hour and, once it had
been safely secured, the number of chips was verified.
While some people tried to bribe Betfair staff as to the
number of chips, others used a more scientific approach,
measuring the width of an average chip and enquiring
about the internal volume of the car.
In the end it was good old fashioned guessing that did
it for Marcus Gustafson, who's entry among thousands was
within an astonishing three chips of the right amount -
127 644.
It won him a VIP place at this year’s WSOP Europe Main
Event in London. The Swedish poker pro's prize includes
the buy-in to the Main Event, accommodation at a top
hotel and flights to London later on in the year.
Gustafson will be competing in the GBP 10 000 main event
which starts on the 27th of September and concludes on
2nd October.
The WSOP Europe sponsored by Betfair starts on September
19th and is the only place outside of the US to win a
sanctioned poker bracelet.
