ANOTHER POKER MOVIE?
25 July 2008
"Deal" director to make another attempt at the
ultimate poker movie
According to a piece in the U.S. entertainment magazine
"Variety," poker fans may have another movie on their
passion in prospect to entertain them despite the poor
box office performance of this year's "Deal" production.
The magazine reports that "Deal" director Gill Cates Jr.
is to direct a documentary provisionally entitled "Pass
the Sugar" that will examine the action and
personalities on the nine final-table contestants of the
2005 World Series of Poker Main Event, including the
multi-million dollar Australian winner Joe Hachem,
formerly a chiropractor.
Variety magazine showcases Cates's track record of six
movies, including $pent, The Mesmerist and A Midsummer
Night's Rave. His most recent, and best known to poker
players, effort was "Deal" which starred Burt Reynolds,
Brett Harrison and poker ace actress Shannon Elizabeth.
The film turned out to be less than a hit and received
poor player and movie critic reviews.
Joe Hachem's brother Tony - himself a poker player - is
on the production team for Pass the Sugar, and stars
like Jennifer Tilly and Jose Canseco will likely be
participants, giving on-film views and opinions.
