MIZRACHI THE OMAHA KING AT WSOP

Poker ace dominates final table play in event 50
One of the top events in the World Series of Poker has
to be the $10 000 Pot Limit Omaha, a competition that
once again this year attracted top players
314 players started, including luminaries like Doyle
Brunson, Patrik Antonius, Scotty Nguyen, Annie Duke and
Greg Raymer. By Day 2 only 55 survived. Giving a hint of
the pressure and competitivness by the end of the first
hour ten top players had been eliminated, including
Anita Perl, Alex Brenes, John Duthie, Greg Raymer, Minh
Ly, JC Tran and Chau Giang.
With the money bubble extending to 36 remaining players,
play continued until the final nine was reached,
consisting of Tommy Ly (1 895 000) Robert Mizrachi (1
090 000) Rene Mouritsen (775 000) Patrik Antonius (650
000) Doyle Brunson (510 000) Jonas Flug-Entin (445 000)
Marco Traniello (420 000) Stephen Ladowski (360 000) and
Steve Sung (175 000)
With such a constellation of poker stars, and the lure
of big money and, for Brunson, that elusive 12th
bracelet, the game held all the promise of a great
occasion - and it did not disappoint as the players went
at it.
Starting with the second best chip count and clearly
thirsting for his first WSOP bracelet, Mizrachi played
outstandingly throughout and dominated the final table.
In the end it was Mizrachi all the way, with Brunson's
hopes of a tie with Hellmuth on bracelets dashed as he
was eliminated by Patrik Antonius in sixth place,
earning $123 967 for his trouble. Antonius lasted until
he was sent to the rail in third place, for which he
collected $311 394.
By the time the game went to heads up Mizrachi had a
serious lead as he faced off with Rene Mouritsen, and it
took less than fifteen hands to decide the match.
Mizrachi took away his first bracelet and a handsome
$768 889 check, leaving second placed Mouritsen with
$464 877.
