NEW YORK RAIDS CONTINUE
15 January 2010
Two-year investigation involved extensive use
of wire taps
Enforcement officials in New York continue to pursue
online sports betting rings, reports the New York Daily
News, claiming that individuals connected with organised
crime are being watched in a two year, multi million
dollar operation that makes extensive use of wire
tapping.
The gambling rings under observation
apparently deploy the latest communication devices to
move money and place wagers on offshore websites,
necessitating the use of equally hi-tech enforcement
technology to counter them.
The newspaper claims
that last month along ‘dozens’ of search warrants were
applied for by prosecutors involved in the operation,
which appears to be centred on Staten Island and
Brooklyn.
Those named so far in the investigation
include alleged mobsters Pietro Inzerillo and Joseph
Lanni, who operate the website Touchdownbets.com. Other
online gambling domain names owned by individuals tied
into the investigation include Bet1010.com and
NYSportsWager.com.
Alfredo (Dark Al) Correa and
Gerard Bruzzese control nysportswager.com, the largest
of the three sites, court documents show, although the
allegations have been denied by legal represetatives of
Correa.
