16 January 2009
The next big event is a thriller in Manila at end
January...and it includes a PLO element
The addition of a pot limit Omaha tournament looks set
to make the upcoming Manila leg of the Asian Poker Tour
starting end-January more interesting. Taking place at
the Dusit Thani Manila resort in Makati, Philippines,
the PLO event will be one of six preliminary events on
the schedule.
NLHE dominates the other events, although there are
variations on the full table-freezeout format, with
bounty hunting, rebuy and six-handed play all featuring
in the line-up to keep things interesting. A popular
Asian game - 13-Card poker - is also being offered.
Last year's APT Manila Main Event attracted a field of
316 players who pursued a first prize of $280 000.
Aussie pro David Saab defeated Korean Chris Roh heads up
to take the title in 2008.
The 2009 APT Milan main event carries a $2 500+$200
buy-in and is expected to generate a $1 million plus
prize pool - big enough to attract international players
of note.
