ALASKAN LOTTERY WINNER ASSAULTED (Update)
16 January 2009
Someone was unhappy about this win...
The convicted sex offender who ironically won a $500 000
Alaskan lottery designed to raise funds for sexually
abused victims last week (see previous InfoPowa report)
himself became a victim when he was subjected to an
unprovoked street assault, the Juneau Empire newspaper
reports.
Alec Ahsoak (53), the man who won the big prize, was
subjected to an apparently unprovoked attack on a
downtown Anchorage street this week, the victim of a
metal pipe wielding adult male, according to police
officials.
A police spokesman said Ahsoak was attacked when a man
approached him to ask if he was the man who won the
$500,000 jackpot. "There was no apparent attempt at
robbery," police lieutenant Dave Parker said. "He was
struck eight to 10 times, and then he threw his Pepsi at
the assailant and he ran for Phyllis' Cafe and the
assailant ran off."
Ahsoak was taken to hospital with his injuries and
discharged the following morning, whilst police reported
that they had arrested 20-year-old Brandon J. Hughes of
Los Angeles for the assault. Police told local
television station KTUU-TV in Anchorage that Hughes did
not know Ahsoak, increasing the mystery surrounding the
attack.
