NEXT PLAYTECH ACQUISITION?
11 January 2008
Could Virtue Fusion be in Playtech's sights?
The UK online bingo development company Virtue Fusion,
which provides the backend for online bingo at major
companies like Rank's Mecca, William Hill and Bet365,
could be Playtech's next acquisition, according to an
exclusive and unsourced report from eGaming Review this
week.
Spokesmen from both companies have refused to comment on
the story.
In its report, EGR claims that Playtech is close to
sealing a deal to buy the online bingo software
provider, despite already offering a bingo product in
tandem with its poker, casino, mobile and live-dealer
products.
It is not known how much the rumoured deal might be
worth, and other confirmation has not thus far been
forthcoming, although earlier this week Playtech
spokesmen reaffirmed the company's intention to continue
pursuing an aggressive acquisition strategy.
Playtech's last major online acquisition coup was the
takeover of Tribeca Tables, which brought a significant
number of online poker sites into the Playtech fold
after the UIGEA was signed into law in late 2006. The
deal, worth $75 000, included the transition of the
poker operations of sites like Paddy Power Poker, VC
Poker and Blue Square’s poker operation to the iPoker
network.
