LEISURE AND GAMING LANDS MORE ITALIAN LICENSES
12 January 2007
Another 47 permits for betting group's Betshop
subsidiary
The latest Leisure and Gaming trading update reveals
that the company has acquired an additional 47 Italian
gambling licenses through subsidiary Betshop, and
reports that the company expects its results for the
year ended December 2007 to be in line with
expectations.
Company spokesmen said L&G had successfully restructured
its operations following the disposal of its US-facing
businesses, with Italian-based Betshop driving the
group’s revenues, and that the company was
“...encouraged by the growth opportunities in the
Italian market”.
L&G acquired Betshop in June 2006. The European betting
and gaming business comprises three operating divisions:
BetShop Italia, a franchised chain of over 800 branded
shops and networked retail gaming outlets offering
sports betting via terminals across Italy;
BetShop.com, a pan-European online sports betting and
casino gaming business licensed in Malta and operating
in eight languages; and
GoalsLive.com, a soccer information and results portal
service for internet and particularly mobile phone
users.
In addition to Italy, BetShop is focused on working with
governments and regulators to develop its franchised
sports betting and gaming retail shop network in Central
and Eastern European markets including Poland, the Czech
Republic and Romania, as well as in Lebanon.
