MAJOR ONLINE POKER FIRMS BLACKLISTED BY BELGIAN
GOVERNMENT
10 February 2012
Officials make good on threats to ISP-block
unlicensed operators
Belgian government officials have followed
up on their threats to block unlicensed operators from
accessing the Belgian online gambling market by black
listing major internet gambling companies like
Chilipoker, Titan, Everest Poker and 888, according to
local media reports.
The blacklistings have
apparently been communicated to Belgium's main Internet
Service Providers, who will be required under the
country's new regulatory regime to block access by
Belgian residents.
The Pokerfuse information site
reports that Bwin.party digital entertainment appears to
have evaded inclusion on the black list despite the size
of its Party Poker operation. This is thought to be
because the internet gambling giant has indicated an
intention to license despite its earlier protestations
that the Belgian regulations are in conflict with
European Union principles and law.
