INTERNET GAMBLING PROTAGONIST UNDER INVESTIGATION
(Update)
10 February 2012
Inside trading probe is looking into the
affairs of the Representative from Alabama
The name Spencer Bachus has become
synonymous with often outrageous anti-online gambling
statements, but just lately the Republican Party
representative for Alabama and House financial services
committee chair perhaps has other things on his mind.
InfoPowa readers will remember the furore last year
when it was alleged that some politicians were
personally benefitting from inside knowledge on
legislative matters in Congress, and Bachus was among
those mentioned in a television investigative expose
(see previous InfoPowa reports).
The Washington
Post has since reported that the Office of Congressional
Ethics launched a probe into the allegations, and that
the enquiry includes "numerous suspicious trades on
Bachus's annual financial disclosure forms."
Bachus has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and has
reportedly said that he welcomes the opportunity to
furnish the OCE with the information it has requested in
order to set the record straight.
