Positive growth in estimated GGR will be a
boon to newly-licenced operators
Jdigital, the newly launched Spanish Association of
Digital Play (la Asociación Española de Juego Digital)
has estimated that the Spanish online gambling market
based on gross gaming revenue (GGR) in 2011 has
increased by 20 percent exceeding Euro 370 Million.
Future revenues look bright based on the
association's belief that the market will reach Euro 500
million in 2012 and exceed Euro 800 million by 2014.
Estimated online sports betting revenues generated
Euro 125 Million in 2011, an increase of 14 percent over
2010 said the association, while online poker has
increased by 18 percent over 2010, exceeding Euro 100
million. Casino and skill games are up 21 percent over
2010, grossing over Euro 145 million.
A leap in
unique users is reported with a 60 percent increase in
2011 to 600 000. Broken down into sector, Jdigital
estimates that 500 000 of those are bettors, 200 000
online poker players and approximately 100 000 indulged
in online casino games.
Taking into
consideration, the cost of high profile sporting
sponsorships, JDigital estimates that operators as a
whole spent Euro 90 million in marketing, advertising
and sponsorships in 2011.
