WORLD SERIES OF POKER FINAL TABLE WILL NO LONGER BE
DELAYED
3 February 2012
Surprise change of format for 2012's epic
poker championship
Since its introduction several years ago, the
decision by the World Series of Poker to delay the main
event final table action with a break of four months,
only staging it in November, has been roundly criticised
by both players and railbirds anxious to see the main
event concluded within the timelines of the actual
competition.
The latest announcement from
organisers Caesars Entertainment appears to indicate
that the company has taken note of the unpopularity of
the 'delayed action' format, which was ostensibly
introduced to improve television viewership of the big
event.
In a Twitter announcement Tuesday, the Las
Vegas giant indicated that the full schedule will be
released Wednesday...but gave tantalising hints as to
what it will include.
Apparently the 2012 43rd
WSOP dates are going to be May 27 to July 16, 2012, and
the prestigious tournament will once again take place at
the Rio in Las Vegas. It is expected that 470 poker
tables will be pressed into use...over a hundred more
than in 2011… to accommodate the anticipated record
number of entrants.
There will be no day off
during the 2012 Main Event, and importantly (not to
mention intriguingly) there's an enigmatic comment that
the November Nine (the main event final table
contestants) format will not be returning. Observers
have seized upon this, linking it to a comment made in a
Poker Listings interview last year by WSOP official Seth
Palansky, who said back then:
"If you're doing
something live do you really need to delay it four
months and try to build this anticipation to get people
to watch? It doesn't quite work."
