Memorandum of Understanding signed with
Canadian provincial authority as plans to licence online
gambling gather momentum
When Canada's most populous province, Ontario,
becomes the nation's third to licence online gambling
later this year, the Alderney Gambling Control
Commission will have a foot in the collaboration door
following a Memorandum of Understanding signed this week
with the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario.
The MoU provides for the exchange of information,
cooperation during investigations and inspections where
appropriate as well as developing initiatives in the
areas of common standards, requirements, testing
protocols and other matters that will enhance integrity,
consumer protection, public confidence and anti-crime
measures, according to a joint statement from the
parties.
The agreement with Ontario is the latest
in a string of such arrangements which the AGCC has
signed with regulators in Denmark, the state of Nevada
and the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, and this latest
collaborative concord will make AGCC regulatory
experience available to the Ontario Lottery and Gaming
Corporation which will oversee the regulatory process.
The Canadian provinces of British Columbia and
Quebec already have well-established online gambling
regulatory systems.
