NEW HIGH ROLLER POKER COMPETITION INTRODUCED
12 February 2010
$25 000 buy-in planned
There will be some special high stakes action in the
North American Poker Tour (NAPT) this year; sponsor
Pokerstars.net has announced that the US event will
include a special $25 000 buy-in High Roller Bounty
Shootout to be held at the Venetian in Las Vegas on
February 23rd.
Played to a No Limit Texas Holdem
format, the Shootout is expected to attract many of the
big international names in poker and will take place
over a two day period. Players must win their tables in
order to move on to the next round, as is typical in a
shootout, and each contestant has a $5 000 bounty on his
or her head. Adding to the excitement, Pokerstars has
added $100 000 as a prize for the winner of the most
bounties.
PokerStars Head of Global Events
Jeffrey Haas says: "We want to try new things, different
formats, and unique events that make our players happy.
This is sure to be a hit with both our players and the
people who watch on television."
The rules and
payment schedules of the LAPT mean that each player who
reaches the final table will pocket $50 000. After the
final table is paid off, the remaining prize pool, less
the bounties, will be awarded entirely to the winner.
Arrangements are already in hand to televise and later
screen the final tablke action.
This year is the
NAPT's first outing, and it has so far done
extraordinarily well; the Caribbean Adventure was the
series' first stop and pulled in a main event field of 1
529 players, with the winner scooping up $2.2 million
(see previous InfoPowa report)
Following the
NAPTs Venetian epic, the tournament series will travel
east to Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, Connecticut. NAPT
Mohegan Sun takes place between April 7th and 11th and
features a $5 000 buy-in, the same price tag as the
Venetian Main Event.
