ALABAMA ENFORCEMENT IN POKER RAID
12 February 2010
The pressure stays on in the South
The Alabama state government's drive to suppress illegal
gambling continued last weekend with a raid on a Pelham
home conducted by a joint task force of Hoover and
Pelham enforcement officials armed with a search
warrant.
The task force found 72 players in
action and thousands of dollars on the tables which led
to some name-taking and confiscation of equipment,
although no arrests were made.
Lt. Scott Tucker,
spokesman for the authorities, said that small home
games held among neighbours was unlikely to attract the
attention of criminal enforcement, but that the current
situation where a large number of gamblers had travelled
from elsewhere in the state was clearly a different
issue.
