ANTI-ONLINE GAMBLING AG ACCEPTED BY U.S. SENATE
(Update)
6 February 2009
Holder is no friend of online gambling...
President Obama's nominee for the important national law
enforcement post of Attorney General, Eric Holder (see
previous InfoPowa report) has been accepted by the
Senate Judiciary Committee by 75 votes to 21, making his
appointment as the first African-American AG a virtual
certainty. His nomination apparently achieved strong
bi-partisan support Monday.
Holder has a record of anti-online gambling sentiment,
and was outspoken against the industry in recent
nomination hearings for the post, where he was led in
his statements on the industry by arch-Internet gaming
opponent Jon Kyl.
A small group of Republicans said they opposed Holder,
arguing that he was hostile to gun control and not fully
supportive of the war on terrorism.
