ONLINE GOLF GAME PACKING 'EM IN
29 February 2008
Skillground's UTourGolf went Beta live in
September and is doing brisk business
With excellent graphics and plenty of realistic
head-to-head and tournament action for fun or real money
prizes, Skillground's online venture UTourGolf is doing
brisk business, it appears, with almost 900 players
active on the site when InfoPowa checked it out this
week following favourable player reports on Internet
message boards.
Skillground launched the game in Beta format back in
September 2007 (see previous InfoPowa report) and
announced a new challenge option, handicap play,
mini-games and player created tourneys two months later.
It's essentially a full-on out-of-the-box multiplayer PC
game that can be played for free or for money with the
prospect of competing for and winning prizes.
Michael Haines, Managing Director of Skillground owner
Groove Games claims the product combines skill with
strategy and nerve to create a unique online experience
in a popular sport."
“Like real golf, you never play a game exactly the same
way. That’s what’s so appealing about it. The variables
are always changing, like weather and wind conditions,
pin and tee placements, green speed and the length of
the rough,” he says.
SkillGround has a proprietary and completely open skill
ranking system designed to ensure that players can
compete in a fair environment. They can go head-to-head
or take part in tiered tournaments, from Rookie to
Legend using UTour Golf’s automatic skill matching
feature. The game launched with three golf courses
inspired by major locations around the world and offers
multiple game rules including traditional stroke play
and Stableford Plus, with further locations planned.
