ISRAELI ONLINE GAMBLING RING BUSTED
1 February 2008
Police have still to release identities of seven
people arrested over the weekend
The Jerusalem Post reports that seven people were
arrested and 15 others were detained for questioning on
suspicion of running an illegal online gambling ring,
worth hundreds of millions of shekels a year, following
a weekend police operation.
Police revealed that those arrested are also suspected
of laundering hundreds of thousands of shekels in
profits.
The police spokesman told reporters that the sting
investigation, which involved an undercover officer,
indicated that several underworld figures helped the
suspects launder the money via a Ramat Gan money changer
who transferred part of the funds to foreign bank
accounts.
As we went to press the police had not yet released
details of those involved.
