DOYLE'S IS OUT....IN, NO OUT OF THE U.S. MARKET
23 February 2007
Confusing communications from leading US online poker site
Creating some serious confusion among players and
industry observers alike this week was a press release
from the PR company supporting the respected Doyle's
Room.com poker site.
Given credibility by the recent announcement that it's
Tribeca network was closing to US players, Doyle's
release announced its imminent departure from the US
market, disappointing thousands of players who had hoped
that the venue would find a way to continue servicing
the considerable US demand for honest poker games.
In a very short timeframe, this was then denied by
Doyler's Room spokespersons, who reassured US players
that the poker room would be hanging in with US business
and planned a new network.
Hardly had the sighs of relief subsided when Doyle's
Room said that the original release - a withdrawal from
the US market - was correct, and that US IP numbers
would be blocked. Meanwhile Full Tilt Poker has offered
an alternative and will allow Doyle's players to
transfer all funds, points and bonuses to their site.
Headed by Texas poker legend Doyle Brunson, who has thus
far remained defiant in the face of US Department of
Justice activities under the new UIGEA legislation,
Doyle's Room is probably more vulnerable to DoJ
attentions than most, but the poker room has earned a
respected name in the business and will be sadly missed.
