BIG GROUP RIVALRY IN LAND POKER TOURNAMENTS
16 February 2007
Going after the same timeframe, Venetian and Wynn engage in a little heads up action.
The Las Vegas poker sector was left wondering at the choice of identical timeframes this week when super gambling giants The Venetian and Wynns competitively announced new poker tournaments scheduled for later this (February) month.
The Venetian's 'Deep Stack Extravaganza,' and the 'Wynn Classic', whilst having different formats have both been scheduled to take place February 21st through March 11th, 2007.
The Venetian's deep-stack series offers 19 consecutive daily tournaments with either $300+30 or $500+40 buy-ins. The lower buy-in provides a $6 000-chip starting stack and the more expensive a $10 000 in chips starter. Both offer a purchase of $1 500 and $2 500 respectively in additional chips for a nominal $10 dealer/staff gratuity. There will be forty minute levels and generous blind structures, with daily satellites to allow lower-bankrolled players the opportunity to win their way into one of the larger events. 16 of the 19 scheduled events are no-limit Hold'em, with the other three split one each across the pot-limit Omaha, Omaha/8, and Hold'em / Omaha / Stud formats.
The Wynn Classic on the other hands commences with a satellite day and two $500+40 no-limit Hold'em events, then escalates to events at $1 000+60, $2 000+80 or $3 000+100 before culminating in a four-day $10 000+200 buy-in final that starts March 8th.
