PADRAIG WINS IRISH POKER CROWN
18 December 2009
259 players in the field
Galway was the stunningly beautiful first stop on the
inaugural PokerStars.com United Kingdom Ireland Poker
Tour this week, and it was an Irishman who took the
honours in a talented field of 259 players.
The
Euro 2 000 buy-in event generated a prize pool of Euro
471 380, giving winner Padraig Parkinson a take-home of
Euro 125 000 for the win. Runner up Paul Merrow
collected a cheque for Euro 82 000 for his second
placing.
Tournament host, Nick Wealthall said:
"We couldn’t have asked for a stronger final table line
up to start the tour or a better winner. Padraig has
always been a top tournament player and he’s proved it
again here; the fact that he’s a native of Galway makes
it all the more special. Everyone watching the event
knew Padraig was going to win. The whole event had an
amazing atmosphere."
Parkinson faced a final
table comprised of Trevor Bulless and Paul Merrow from
Britain; Paul Dooley, Michael Graydon, Vinny Cosgrove
and Cat O'Neill from Ireland; United States player Ben
Lefew and Michael McFadgen from Canada. Lewfew and
Graydon were both Pokerstars qualifiers.
