Aussie online qualifier bests a field of 395
The Pokerstars Asia Pacific Poker Tour Sydney Grand
Final ended in a local vistory this weekend as online
qualifier Aaron Benton of Wollongong, New South Wales,
bested a field of 395 to take the main A$594 000 prize
and the trophy.
Benton, a 32-year-old personnel
consultant, said that he played on the Internet and in
bar games, but had liked poker so much that he decided
to take it to the higher tournament levels.
To
secure the win, Benton faced a final table that
comprised: Ernst Hermans, Leo Boxell, Wayne Carlson, Tom
Grigg, Andrew Hiscox, Barry Forrester, David Formosa and
Thomas Slifka.
The final heads up was between
Benton and another online qualifier, Ernst Hermans from
Holland, who was beaten in the contest but still took
home a useful A$381 000.
This was the third
consecutive year that this competition has been won by a
local player.
