GBP168 800 payday for former Ireland striker

After a couple of narrow escapes against some formidable opposition, and starting the final table with one of the lowest chip stacks, former Irish football star Tony Cascarino has emerged triumphant in the GUKPT Grand Final main event in London.

The final table looked included the following players:

Tony Cascarino, Antoine Arnault, Philip Patrick, Daniel Millar, Albert Iversen, Charalambos Xanthos, Romano Pizzo, Mike Hill and Stuart Rutter.

Cascarino bested a star-studded field of 183 entrants in the Grand Final to decide the tournament in a heads up with Antoine Arnault, the PR head for Louis Vuitton, taking the honours and the GBP 168 800 main prize. Arnault picked up a second placing cheque for GBP 107 100.

The 2009 Grand Final is Cascarino’s second GUKPT title. He took the 2008 Bolton crown and also reached the final table at last year’s Grand Final. This win takes him to the top of the GUKPT All Time Money List.

Net stop on the GUKPT is Luton for the Champion of Champions series, which will see the Main Event starting on Saturday.
