U.S. ONLINE MARKET KEEPS GROWING
19 December 2008
Latest Media Metrix numbers show that even under
adverse conditions, Americans like to gamble online
Despite the continued vigorous attempts by conservative
US politicians and the Department of Justice to curtail
Internet gambling, online gamblers continue to pursue
their pastime of choice, with the latest MediaMetrix
comScore statistics showing an 11 percent increase in US
visits to online gambling sites during November 2008.
The increase is in stark contrast to the marked declines
which US land gambling companies have been reporting for
some months.
16.1 million unique visits were made by US residents to
online gambling sites in November, an increase of just
over 1.5 million from October’s tally.
Aside from gambling, websites owned by Google remained
the most popular online properties by visitor numbers in
November with 147 million visitors followed by Yahoo!
domains with nearly 144 million visitors. In third place
was Microsoft with 123.5 million visitors while AOL held
down fourth with 110 million.
