IVEY HAS A BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE
14 December 2007
Online poker had more downs than ups for poker ace
Phil Ivey this week
According to the High Stakes Poker Database, a website
that monitors high-stakes online poker games, top
international pro player Phil Ivey had a pretty bad day
at his Full Tilt Poker "office" this week, losing two
massive Omaha pots to Finnish online competitor Ilari "Ziigmund"
Sahamies.
HSPD has one of the pots listed as the sixth-biggest of
all time online. Full Tilt's ultra high-stakes table has
been dubbed the "Ivey Thunderdome," by FT insiders, but
it was more like a thunderstorm for Ivey as the cards
went against him in a match between experts.
Ivey and Sahamies were playing heads-up Pot-Limit Omaha
at the highest possible level at Full Tilt Poker,
$500/$1 000. Ivey took a big hit when he lost a $213 000
pot when high rolling Ziigmund hit a flush on the river,
and a few minutes later the two tangled in the biggest
pot so far this (December) month at Full Tilt.
By the time the action and reaction had peaked, there
was $321 983 in the pot....and Ivey came off second
best, ending a day at the office that he would probably
prefer to forget. But, there's always another day,
another game....and another big pot in online poker.
