SMELLY NEW JERSEY PLAYER FUMES OVER EJECTION
1 August 2008
17 hours straight at the poker table does little
for limousine driver's personal hygiene
The New Jersey Casino Control Commission is currently
considering the delicate matter of whether a casino
acted correctly in ejecting a player on grounds of poor
personal hygiene, reports Associated Press.
A 440lb limo driver, Michael Wax (54) in making the
complaint explained that he had been at the poker tables
at the Borgata, Atlantic City casino for 17 hours
straight, giving him no time to freshen up. But his body
odour was sufficiently bad to cause complaints by other
players at the table.
The casino first tried the diplomatic approach, with a
manager following Wax to the washroom on one of his
necessary visits, and advising him that other players
had complained about his personal hygiene.
Unfortunately, this did not deter Wax, who tried to
rejoin the table and was then asked to leave. His
request for a free room to freshen up was also turned
down. Wax said he told casino officials: "There's no
question I stink. I'm not denying it. I do have an odor.
I've been playing for 17 hours."
Wax left, but laid a complaint with the Commission,
alleging that the casino was out of line to tell him he
stinks in front of other patrons. "I would like an
apology," Wax said.
Dave Coskey, a spokesman for the Borgata said it is
company policy not to comment on matters involving
customers.
