FATHER AND SON ON NPL FINAL TABLE FOR UK OPEN CHAMPS
24 August 2007
But the old man takes the title....
The weekend saw the final table of the National Poker
League's UK Open Championship play out, with father and
son Peter and Josh Gould competing for the GBP 2 600
buy-in Main Event champion's honours with close initial
chip counts of 63 000 and 57 000 respectively.
But all's fair in love and poker, and the older Gould
busted son Josh along with Darren Woods and Jeff
Buffenbarger on his way to the winner's prize.
The heads up pitted Peter Gould against Patrik Selin,
but two hands later it was all over and Gould collected
the GBP 34 000 main prize and the title. Gould said it
was his biggest win to date, although he recently cashed
for $25 101 at the 2007 WSOP Main Event and won two Five
Diamond Classic tournaments in Las Vegas.
Second placed Selin took home GBP 21 250.
Other players who reached the final table after a tough
contest were Dieter Dijkstra, Lee Watts, James Hart, Dan
Carter and Jason Ho.
Players like Mel Judah, Rolande De Wolf, Dave Colclough
and Tony G were all entrants at the Loose Cannon Club in
London on Day 1 of the tournament but did not shape in
some fierce poker action, although TonyG managed to make
it to Day 2.
The NPL is building a reputation as one of the most
aggressive and international tournament organisations in
the industry. The company's next outing will be the Asia
Open, which takes place October 10-13 in Manila in the
Philippines. Watch out for High Definition Television
coverage of the tournament roster ahead.
