MOBILE WAGERING? TRY SWAMBLE!
17 August 2007
A new fad that is creating waves of interest in
the blog and mobile niches
The title says it all - Swamble, or a fun mix of
swopping and gambling that is causing a growing wave of
interest with early adapters on the blog and mobile
scene.
Pulling it all together on sites like Swamble.com and
its associated blog, are Gerard and Scott at Swamble
Inc., a Las Vegas firm formed this year. And if the
location concerns you, relax - no cash changes hands on
the beta Swamble platform, where participants can bet
against each other on just about anything, and as long
as no finance is involved the instruments or material of
settlement is decided between the bettors.
Young and tech savvy users are taking to the concept
bigtime, judging by the blog activity which also runs
prize-only sweepstakes and undertakes polls to keep the
vibe going. Since mobile gambling is a legally sensitive
area in the USA thanks to the UIGEA the site only allows
gambling with non-monetary items, such as having to
write a blog and link to the winner of the bet.
These kinds of non-cash wagers won’t lead to a lot of
success for the company, but the founders say that they
will soon add a private wagering feature which could.
The buzzy site Tech Crunch has discovered the platform,
too. Swamble has been selected as one of the
TechCrunch20 finalists for the TechCrunch20 Conference
this coming September. Approximately 700 applicants from
26 different countries were submitted and about 100
TechCrunch20 finalists, including Swamble were chosen to
move on to the final round of competition which will
include a demo presentation along with an interview.
Swamble's site is geared for mobile use, with slick and
fast navigation that allows the user to quickly create a
title, a wager and then add tags. Other users then jump
in and accept, usually leaving some fun trash-talk and
taunts.
