PartyBets.com Backs Homeless World Cup

Party Bets.com has come forward with a useful contribution to the fifth Homeless World Cup currently running until August 4 in Copenhagen.

The online sportsbook will be taking bets on teams competing in the event and will donate all proceeds to the Homeless World Cup organisation.

Five hundred players from across the globe, who are currently excluded and homeless are being given the opportunity to represent their countries in a football competition that is backed by UEFA.

48 nations will take part in the 7 day event, with teams from as far a field as Uganda, Kazakhstan, Brazil and Canada all traveling to the Danish capital. Russia are current favourites at 7/1, whilst other contenders include Poland at 10/1 and England at 15/1.

A Party Bets.com spokesman said, "We're delighted to be involved in such a worthwhile project. Research from the 2006 event showed that 73 percent of the players involved actually changed their lives for the better after participating.

"Any profits made from the market will be donated to the charity, so we are really hoping that our users get involved in the fun and back their country."

The last Homeless World Cup was held in Cape Town, South Africa and was won by Russia.

International football legend, Eric Cantona, will visit this year's event tomorrow (Tuesday) to give playing tips to this year's contestants at a special training clinic.

Cantona says he is inspired by the Homeless World Cup’s mission to use football as a trigger to encourage people who are currently homeless to change their own lives for the better, commenting: “Football unites; it inspires and it energises individuals, communities and the world. Football and the Homeless World Cup has the power to fire up a person to excel as a human being, to change lives for the better. It is fantastic that football brings this opportunity.”
