Online bingo exec to look for new challenges
The Vienna-listed online gambling group Bwin experienced
rising gross gaming revenues across its range of betting
products during the financial year 2008, with ggr
growing to Euro 420.9 million (FY 2007: Euro 353.5
million).
Sportsbetting was again the star of the
group's results, with ggr up 21.1 percent to Euro 235.4
million compared to the previous year, when ggr of Euro
194.3 million was achieved. Turnover in the division
grew by 31.4 percent to Euro 2 927.4 million, much of it
in the fourth quarter on UEFA Euro 2008 events and on
the live betting product.
Online poker
operations delivered a 14.2 percent increase in turnover
to Euro 94.2 million (FY 2007: Euro 82.5 million), with
the introduction of real money poker in Italy a
milestone. Through its subsidiary Ongame, the Bwin group
now boasts up to 45 000 players at the virtual poker
tables simultaneously at peak times and guaranteed
tournament prizes of over $15 million each month.
Online casino operations also showed increased
activity, with turnover up 14.3 percent to Euro 70
million. Skill gaming jumped by 37.3 percent to Euro
21.3 million. Dominic Mansour, CEO
of Bingos.com and Director of Sales and Marketing at
NetplayTV group in the UK is moving on to new challenges
after a year with the London listed company.
In a
statement this week, NetPlayTV chairman and CEO Martin
Higginson announced Mansour's immediate departure in
search of new opportunities, commenting: "'Over the past
12 months Dominic has helped us integrate the Bingos.com
business into the Group. It has been a pleasure working
with him and we wish him well with his new challenges."
Mansour responded: "It has been a real pleasure
working with Martin and the team at NetPlay and I have
really enjoyed the challenge of integrating the two
companies and maximising the economies over the past 12
months. However, having built, lived and breathed the
Bingos.com business from scratch over the past 5 years,
I feel like it's a good time for a new challenge. I wish
Martin and the team all the best for the future."
Gavin Whyte, CEO of subsidiary Supercasino.com, will
become the managing director of the business and assume
responsibility for the day to day operations for the
NetPlay group.
Mansour is well qualified to
build another online business, and has acquired a
respected personal profile in his decade in the
industry. Leaving the metropolitan university of
Manchester in 1997 armed with a business degree, he
spent the following four years as an associate director
with Quantum New Media before joining Globalcom/ Ludus
Online as marketing director in late 2001.
After
almost three years he left Quantum, linked with other
investors and founded Euro Gaming Ltd/ Bingos.com in
mid-2004, building the venture into a successful
Internet business leading to its acquisition in April
2008 by NetPlayTV (see previous InfoPowa reports), when
he joined the NetPlay board of directors and handled
mainly marketing responsibilities.
