After qualifying online at PokerStars, Jason
Mercier wins a major tourney
Online poker player Jason Mercier fought off a stellar
international entry field this weekend to win the $1 340
867 first prize in the PokerStars.com European Poker
Tour San Remo Championship after qualifying for the
tourney in a PokerStars qualifier satellite.
The young American player pretty much dominated play
from Day 2 of the event, eventually despatching his last
heads up opponent, Anthony Lelouche, in under three
hours.
Mercier faced down an impressive list of respected
players to achieve the title, including Dario Minieri
and Gregory Genovese of Italy, Eric Koskas and Anthony
Lelouche of France, Dag Palovic from Slovakia, William
Thorson of Sweden and US countryman Marcus Bower.
Lelouche took home $779 215 for his second place finish.
