UIGEA REPEAL SCENE WARMING UP
20 April 2007
Online gambling lobbyists scheduled to meet with
Financial Services Committee
Latest activity report on the proposed challenge to the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act in the USA
(see previous InfoPowa reports) is that a meeting
between Financial Services Committee politicians and
online gambling lobbyists regarding a strategy for the
repeal initiative is to take place in Washington DC
today (Thursday).
News of the meeting was broken by the gambling
information portal Gambling911, which earlier revealed
that several major portals have been discussing the way
forward for a collaborative effort aimed at mustering
player and industry support for Congressman Barney
Frank's initiative to repeal the UIGEA. Industry
representatives met on Tuesday this week to discuss
these efforts and come up with a decisive plan.
