BETFAIR LAUNCHES GRAND NATIONAL SWEEPSTAKE ONLINE
13 April 2007
Betfairsweepstake.com is a new destination for
office-bound race fans
The major betting exchange and online casino and poker
group Betfair's latest venture will make office
sweepstakes on key race events like the Grand National
easier and more action packed from today (April 12) with
the introduction of a new betting facility.
Betfair has apparently created the service to empower
office workers to take their Grand National sweepstakes
online.
Launching today, Betfairsweepstake.com provides users
with a platform to set up and manage their workplace
sweepstakes, before taking a print-out of entrants and
runners.
Betfair's retention and customer relations management
director Peter Janes said the site marks a move to
introduce a player service in competition with that
historically dominated by newspapers. The new site
presently invites punters to visit on April 12: "Once
the runners have been confirmed, Betfair Office
Sweepstake will be ready to roll. No newspaper, no mess,
just a whole lot of fun!" it announces.
The Grand National run at Aintree in England will see up
to GBP250 million wagered. William Hill betting group
has predicted that it will see over GBP 500 000 of
turnover for every minute they are trading up to the
start of the epic horse race. The company says half of
the adult population is expected to have a bet at an
average of GBP 8 each on this year’s race with 1 in 3
bets being placed by women. Last year William Hill
received over 1.5 million hits on its website in the
hour leading up to the race and took over 35 000 calls
in the same period. The favourite for the race is Joe's
Edge, which won at Cheltenham last month, and has been
backed down since from 50-1 to 8-1.
