APPLE'S NEW SCENARIO IS POKER
13 April 2007
New iPhone application surprises analysts....but
not pokerheads
Observers and analysts alike were surprised to note that
the first third party application for Apple’s new iPhone
is Scenario Poker, a Texas Hold ‘em Limit Tournament
facility for on-the-move poker fans.
A report on the launch from Gaming Intelligence Group
has been catching the attention of news sites involved
in the industry, many expressing surprise that the first
application is mobile gambling-related rather than
productivity oriented applications anticipated by most
industry experts.
The games are designed for the size and format of
iPhone’s touch screen, and the product enables users to
play in a three-round shootout tournament against up to
27 simulated AI opponents (see previous InfoPowa
report).
Since the first InfoPowa report two weeks ago, the
mobile poker application has soared to the number one
spot in Apple’s ‘Top 50 widgets’ list and heads the
‘Today’s top downloads’ list, according to the GIG
report.
The obvious success of the application proves that
demand exists amongst Apple users for gaming products
such as Scenario Poker. The question GIG poses for the
online gaming industry is whether this will eventually
escalate to iPhone to iPhone gameplay as opposed to the
current simulated opponents, and the possibility to
participate in real-money tournaments.
