PATEL COLLECTS TOP FOXWOODS POKER PRIZE
6 April 2007
Two yearsof experience for million dollar winner
After five full days of play and a starting field of 200
players, the World Poker Tour Foxwoods Poker Classic was
decided this week at a final table of six players. By
the end of the session a relative newcomer to the game
had sealed a $1 272 905 first prize victory.
Winner Raj Patel has been playing for only two years,
but his smart and aggressive style overcame more
experienced players and carried him to the final heads
up with Paul Matteo, and that million dollar victory.
Matteo's second placing earned him $643 275, and the
other four compeititors at the final table were all in
six figure dollar territory.
Patel told reporters that he was a casino gambler who
became interested in poker when he watched a WPT
telecast, and the big money to be made in international
tournaments. He spoke with friends who were poker
players to learn the game, watched more television games
and then entered a few smaller tourneys at Foxwoods.
There he made more friends who knew the game and
extended his knowledge, eventually playing in bigger
torunaments at Foxwoods and at the Borgata, where he
finished 63rd.
