MORE BAD NEWS FOR CANADIANS

Now Virgin Games is to discard Canuck business
Frustrated Canadian online gamblers are trying to figure
out exactly what is illegal about gambling online in
their country following a series of pull-outs by
industry companies and tales of US Department of Justice
collaboration with the national Royal Canadian Mounted
Police.
First it was the English Harbour and VIP groups who
advised players they would no longer be taking their
action, followed more recently by e-wallet Neteller.
Earlier a Vancouver marketing agency quietly closed its
doors after a friendly visit by the Mounties asking
questions at the request of their US counterparts.
This week it was Virgin Games that announced plans to
hit the road out of the Great White North. The company
has advised players that it is on the way out following
"...a review of the legalities of online gambling within
Canada" that does not specify exactly why the online
gambling firm thinks Canadian online gambling is against
the law.
The Virgin communication to players apologises for the
bad news that all Canadian accounts will be suspended
with effect from 09h00 EST on April 13 2007 "Due to
recent developments in the global Internet gaming
environment and following a review of the legalities of
online gaming within Canada, we have determined that it
is inappropriate for us to continue accepting online
wagers from Canada."
The communication goes on to urge the unfortunate
Canucks to withdraw any funds in their Virgin accounts
before the deadline, although if that date is missed
withdrawals will still be possible through the Virgin
support centre, although all Canadian accounts will be
locked.
Reminding players of the Neteller withdrawal, the Virgin
email reiterates that the e-wallet will cease processing
Canadian
transactions from April 9 2007. "If you use Neteller to
transact with us you will need to withdraw any remaining
funds in your account before the 9th April 2007," the
notice concludes.
Virgin Games is licenced in Alderney.
