Took a break but can still get on the site

So I thought I'd be responsible for once and "take a break" from a site saving some money in my balance on there for a few days. I discovered I can still get on the site I just can't use any slots or anything, but I can still withdraw. Isn't this kind of defeating the point? Is there some rule that says sites have to allow you to get on to withdraw even though you can't play whilst you're on a break? It also excluded me from their sister site which I forgot it does, and I didn't need or want to be excluded from that site!

Obviously what ended up happening was I withdrew the amount and spent it on another site...I know this is my fault and I need to get to grips with my gambling, I just thought this "take a break" feature was pointless when I could just withdraw and go on any other site and spend it anyway.

Well firstly I will say, there is many tools that casinos have available for players.

Please Note: Not all casinos have the same tools either.

But they do usually have the same standard ones like deposit limits etc....

Secondly the take a break tool is probably different to the tool that allows you to lock your account. So you should probably have used the lock account tool instead if you wanted to be completely locked out of your account for X amount of days that you specify, I know the take a brake and the lock account tools could be deemed to be the same, but they are not. If a casino only has the take a break tool and not the lock account tool, then I would guess that the take a break would actually just lock you out of the account entirely and give you a pop up message if you tried to login etc.

But I never used those tools so I would not know for sure.

It would be best if some reps for some casinos could shed more light on this for you though. Wont let me tag any of the reps for some weird reason.

Did it now: @Mark_Lottomart @L&L-Jan @Team.Videoslots

I hope this helped you though and good luck :)

On our end:

Take a break means: deposit page and game play page are not accessible. Still you can login, withdrawal, play around with account settings.

Self-exclusion is a full block, no login allowed.

The difference is very well explained on the page itself.

The limitation is phrased the other way around, that a time out / take a break will "block yourself from gambling".

For example, the UKGC guidance on this is pretty thin:
* For customers -
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.

* For operators -
You do not have permission to view link Log in or register now.
(contrast with self-exclusion which runs to multiple pages of rules and regulators).

If they allowed you to wager that would be a breach of license, but beyond that it gets vague very quickly - responsible operators would a) block you from depositing and b) temporarily remove you from marketing, but it's unclear whether they must do that as part of these rules.

In the case of self-exclusion it would be absolutely clear - must close account, must return funds, must add personal markers to an internal exclusion system, must remove from marketing in a timely manner etc.

Ah ok thanks for the clarification. I definitely don't want to self-exclude at this point, I just want to keep my money safe on a site for a few days so I don't spend it but it's pointless if I can still get on to withdraw. I need a time-out where I can't log-in.

I think it must vary from site to site. I just checked another one I had a "time out" on and I couldn't log in-that's what I want. I think it's the same on Bet365 and Will Hill. They just won't let you log in. I assumed it was going to be like that on this other site, but I think some do allow you to log in and withdraw. That doesn't work for me though. I guess I just have to be careful and only do it on the sites where it won't let you log in.

@johnnybagel no but that'd be kind of a pain as I was thinking of doing it quite regularly so I need to be able to do it myself really. All the tools are a good idea but it's a bit annoying they work in different ways on different sites. I also hate how you get deposit limits implemented across sister sites when you only wanted it on one. I guess I'll figure out something that works for me one of these days. I just struggle to keep money on sites or in my account without spending it most of the time so keeping it locked on a site for a few days until I can play a promo or something seemed like a good idea. I know I know, I should just give up gambling altogether cos am struggling to control it. I think I'll have to put deposit limits onto all my accounts again and just lift them when I wanna play a promo, I think that's the best idea. Then if I win I can withdraw but won't be able to spend much of it on another site if I have limits on them all.
